Those of you who read our Ain’t the Tool shootout know we at MO are fans of riding dual-sports on pavement, with their supple suspension, upright bars and flexible motors. Hitting the starter button results in the motor firing up quickly with the usual mechanical clatter that adds to BMWs distinction. An overweight, over-powered, expensive off-road bike, but we still want one. I didn’t have a chance to ride the HP-2 in the dirt or on a dirt road see sidebar , but I imagine it would shine there, as it’s designed for hard-core off-road use. An Akrpovic exhaust adds efficiency, while Brembo brakes assure maximum stopping power.

The gearbox is nicely spaced, with smooth operation.
Then you need to give traffic a little wider berth than if you were riding a naked standard or thumper enduro, but you still feel as comfortable as you would on a large sportbike. The wide, opposed cylinders are way down in front of you somewhere, so they aren’t much of an issue unless mega,oto lane splitting.

Is this really a BMW? Driveline lash is not really that noticeable during street riding, although you can feel the clunking as various gears, wheels and shafts line up under hard acceleration. The fact it chooses to run tele-levers and that other hmw parallelogram things is more of a concession to the limited riding abilities of some of its customers than anything else.
This and the nicely tuned suspension bless the bike with fabulous riding qualities and incredible lean angles. Most of this credit goes to the awesome Continental air shock. The three most-sold vehicle models on the road today are pickup trucks and SUVs, so it would stand to reason that American motorcyclists would demand a similar motorcycle, one that combines manly, intimidating styling and off-road practicality with a simple, powerful motor that is noisy and pisses off environmentalists.
Build it, BMW, and they will come. ForBMW put their RGS on a diet, resulting in a bike that is much lighter than its forbearer at a megamto dry weight of pounds, but hardly a motocrosser.

You can ride it supermotard style, or you can hang off it like a racebike. Bruno drags a knee and salutes our troops at the same time. He’s pretty keen on that, too.
I could just keep it up by standing on tip-toe on one foot, with my body leaned to one side. Read megamto they have to say and what they like and dislike about the bike below. At first, it seemed like a bit of silliness, this whole giant motard thing. However, its excellent air shock means the back of the bike was well behaved and steering was easily controlled with the throttle.

The claimed horsepower is delivered, however, with predictable strength and vigor, while being accompanied by excellent torque. The Jumbo Supermoto Twin trend is gaining momentum. Like we say, if mgeamoto sports bikes were built like this, BMW would on to a winner.
The latter engines are satisfying if somewhat stoic; this one runs as though a mad German scientist was in charge of tuning.

It also has an added plus of easy adjustability; megamto small bicycle pump is clipped to the frame for your convenience. The first model was the HP-2, based loosely on the RGS, but with a genuine 45mm inverted front cartridge fork, a rear air shock megamkto looks as if it could land a Trophy Truck, a cc opposed-twin gmw making a claimed hp, and a claimed dry weight of just pounds.
First was the maxi-enduro HP2a light, powerful and capable dual-sporter ready for action on just about any terrain. But his most important contribution is pissing people off.

Like its middle age riders, the GS got more and more portly as BMWs engineers bmd the features the customers demanded, like telelever suspension, ABS brakes, wide, comfortable passenger seats, fairings, heated grips and alternators big enough to power Wrigley Field for an evening double-header.
Looking like it does, it makes lots of promises and then fulfils every one of them — and it does everything you could ask of it. Whilst the chicken strips have gone now, the tyres do not inspire as much confidence as those on the bike I tested.
